Colorado Information Analysis Center

Who We Are

The Colorado Information Analysis Center, (CIAC) was created to protect Colorado citizens and critical infrastructure from all hazards, including terrorism.  We are a centralized resource that collects, analysis and disseminates all-hazards information to stakeholders throughout Colorado and the United States.

Colorado's Fusion Center

The CIAC is the state's fusion center which means it creates connections between federal, state, tribal and local agencies, as well as private sector partners. This concept is integral to the U.S. Department of Homeland Security's strategic initiative for information sharing.

The CIAC ensures a coordinated information exchange using the following strategies:

1. Dissemination of reports and best practices.

The CIAC produces reports for law enforcement and non-law enforcement personnel and is capable of providing real-time incident information to thousands of key recipients throughout the United States.

2. Implementation of an early warning system.

The CIAC acts as an early warning system for actual or suspected terrorist acts, natural disasters and significant criminal activities to help facilitate comprehensive protection strategies and unified response tactics.

3. Integration with a national fusion network.

The CIAC is integrated into the national network of state fusion centers, which have the ability to share information at all levels with federal, state, tribal and local agencies.

Why We Were Created

In response to the 2001 September 11 attacks, the United States has created specialized agencies to coordinate efforts:

  • to prevent,
  • protect against,
  • respond to,
  • recover from and
  • prosecute acts of terrorism

The CIAC is a multi-agency fusion center created to help prevent terrorism incidents in Colorado.  It is designed to link all stakeholders in Colorado, from local and federal law enforcement officers, to bankers and school teachers. It emphasizes detection, prevention and information-driven response to protect the citizens and critical infrastructure of Colorado.  This counter terrorism effort is centralized in order to enhance interagency cooperation and expedite information flow.

Terrorism cannot be completely eliminated.  However, through efficient use of resources, the likelihood and impact of terrorist actions can be reduced.

Prevention is everyone's responsibility.  We are one neighborhood, one state, one nation; and it is the responsibility of all to remain vigilant and to report suspicious behavior.  One call can make a difference.
